Welcome to Teacher Marissa’s room!

"Bright, bold, and funny"

That’s how Teacher Marissa describes her students.

Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Marissa joined the El Hogar team last August. What immediately struck her about El Hogar was our rich history in Pilsen. From the very start, El Hogar has been a place for families to ask questions, receive information, and find resources they need. “Absolutely everything is available in English and Spanish, and always has been. This is an organization that has constantly advocated for Latinx families and their rights!”

Teacher Marissa prioritizes communication and partnership with parents. “When we talk and work together, we serve our students and our community.”

What do her students love most? Dancing, drawing, reading stories, and doing science experiments. It’s no wonder her classroom is so imaginative – Marissa has been playing piano and composing classical music since she was 8 years old!

Teacher Marissa’s active little learners would benefit from more sensory materials like play dough and manipulative toys. “It would help regulate their emotions so they’re calm and ready to learn,” explains Marissa.

Can you support our mission to ensure every classroom has the resources needed to maximize learning? Your gift of $100 will provide new sensory materials for all 6 classrooms, including teacher Marissa’s.

“Our students are creators and leaders,” says Marissa. “They will be the next group of people to design, lead, and change the world around us. They need us to come together so we can help them learn as much as possible.” On behalf of teacher Marissa and all of our staff here at El Hogar, we thank you for your consideration and your support.

A tax-deductible gift in any amount is welcome and deeply appreciated. You may even be able to double your impact with an employer contribution! Enter your employer name below to find out.
